Summary

Behind the familiar claim of U.S. decline lies a more complex reality. China has become the United States' principal competitor, but it still faces demographic, industrial, and strategic constraints. This first part examines the redistribution of global power after the Cold War through the historical trajectories, populations, and economic and commercial capabilities of the two powers. Prepared as part of my work with CESPE-ESPE.
