Summary

Together with Andrés Gómez, I analyse water-privatisation disputes in Bolivia and the Chevron–Texaco conflict in Ecuador. We argue that voluntary corporate social responsibility cannot replace enforceable environmental and human-rights obligations, and present regional integration as a possible regulatory counterweight.
